Located in the village of Champion, Alberta, Hope Christian School (HCS) is a grade one through grade twelve Christian school. The school is committed to meeting both the academic as well as spiritual needs of its students.
HCS is owned and operated by the Evangelical Free Church of Champion, but it is nondenominational in operation. We believe that when the church, the school, and the family are teaching the same life principles, the child is secure and free to do his or her best academically.
Because of our small size, our whole school is able to participate in many activities that would otherwise not be possible in larger schools. Students of HCS participate in regular field trips. We have oganized family camping, white water rafting trips, and senior students have beenĀ involved in a missions trip to Costa Rica. We also belong to the Alberta School Athletics Association, enabling our students to compete in sports activities with other schools in the area.
Hope Christian School began in the fall of 1981 with 13 students. A group of parents became increasingly concerned that God and Biblical values were being systematically removed from public school classrooms. They wanted to have God at the center of their child’s education. Thus they started an independent school. In the fall of 1982, the school started to use the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) program.
Hope Christian School has a regular day-school program, a home education program and an online/distributed learning program.
Our regular elementary and junior high in school program uses mainly the ACE curriculum as well as teacher facilitated Alberta Distance Learning Courses (ADLC). The ACE materials are also supplemented with the locally developed materials that are necessary to meet Alberta Education curriculum requirements.
We encourage you to visit the ADLC website to see what is offered. You may also wish to check out the websites of ACE Ministries and ACE Canada to learn more about ACE Schools. Our school is also a member of the Association of Independent School and Colleges in Alberta (AISCA).
For regular in-school senior high school students we use the same online or print courses as our online school, facilitated through Alberta Distance Learning. Students work in a teacher facilitated atmosphere, using computers and/or print materials, with some allowance for them to work at their own pace.
Our home education program supports a large population of home educated students and their parents. With the home education program you may use the resources of your choosing but you will be required to fulfill the outcomes laid out by the Alberta Education Home Education Regulations. This program is facilitated by Alberta certificated teachers.
