Home Education Funding

Alberta Education provides funding to families enrolled in a supervised Home Education program. This funding helps offset the cost of curriculum, educational resources, and other approved learning expenses.

Home Education, Parent-Led

Students registered in our Home Education (parent-led) program by September 25 are eligible for $928.03 in Alberta Education funding for the current school year.

🌱

Kindergarten

Children enrolled in Kindergarten who turn five years of age on or before December 31 of the current school year and are registered by September 30 are eligible for $464.02 in Alberta Education funding.

Please note

Students enrolled in Hope Christian School's Online Program are not eligible for Home Education funding, as their education is fully funded through Alberta Education's online learning model.

How Funding Works

Two Installments Each Year

Alberta Education provides funding to Hope Christian School in two installments during the school year.

Reimbursement Available
NovemberFamilies may receive reimbursement up to 50% of their annual funding.
FebruaryFamilies may receive reimbursement for the remaining eligible funding.

Funding is reimbursed for approved educational expenses in accordance with Alberta Education regulations and Hope Christian School's funding guidelines.

What Funding Can Cover

Funding may be used to reimburse approved educational expenses that directly support your child's home education program, including:

  • Curriculum and learning resources
  • Educational supplies
  • Books and manipulatives
  • Music instruction
  • Educational software and online subscriptions
  • Other approved educational expenses

All reimbursement requests must comply with Alberta Education's funding guidelines.

Claiming Your Expenses

To receive reimbursement, simply submit your completed Expense Claim Form along with your receipts during the designated reimbursement periods. For current claim forms, reimbursement dates, and detailed funding guidelines, please see the resources below.

High School Online Course Grant

One Funded Online Course, Every Semester

High school Home Education students can take advantage of a unique Alberta Education grant that provides funding for one teacher-led online course (up to 5 credits) each semester, without reducing their annual Home Education funding.

This grant allows students to continue enjoying the flexibility of parent-directed Home Education while receiving expert instruction in selected high school courses.

Who Is Eligible?

This grant is available to students who are:

  • Registered in a traditional Home Education program
  • Enrolled with Hope Christian School or another Alberta Home Education provider
  • Working toward high school credits through parent-directed Home Education

Please note: this grant is not available to Shared Responsibility students.

What's Included?

Eligible students may register for one online course (up to 5 credits) each semester.

  • Teacher-led instruction from Alberta-certified teachers
  • Alberta Education-approved curriculum
  • Regular teacher support and feedback
  • High school credits toward graduation

Best of all, the course is funded by Alberta Education and does not reduce your Home Education funding allocation.

Important registration deadlines

To receive grant funding, students must register before the applicable semester deadline: Semester 1 by September 29 and Semester 2 by February 28. Contact our Online Office to learn more about available courses, registration deadlines, and eligibility.
