Read This Before You Register
Summer school is a fantastic way to fast-track your education or upgrade a mark, but it is not the easy route. Before you commit your July, take five minutes to review this checklist and self-reflect honestly.
A Full-Time Commitment
You are squeezing 125 hours of classroom instruction into roughly 20 days. Expect to spend 5 to 8 hours every single day reading, watching modules, and submitting assignments. There are no weekends off if you want to stay ahead!
No Live Classes
This program is completely asynchronous. There are no scheduled Zoom classes and you will not see a teacher lecturing live. You log in, learn from pre-recorded videos and text, and teach yourself with teacher guidance via email.
Zero Deadline Extensions
Because the term is so heavily condensed, deadlines are rigid. Falling behind by even two days means you miss a massive chunk of the course, making it nearly impossible to recover. Speed and consistency are survival skills here.
Locked-Down Exams
Major assessments are strictly monitored online using Proctortrack. This software locks your browser, records your screen, and uses your webcam and microphone to track your movements. You need a reliable computer, webcam, and stable internet.
Are You Ready?
Can you check at least 4 of these 5 boxes? Be honest with yourself!
- Self-Motivation. I can force myself to log on every morning without a parent or teacher nagging me.
- Reading & Comprehension. I am comfortable reading long instructions and watching video tutorials to learn independently.
- Communication. I am willing to advocate for myself and email my teacher the second I get stuck.
- Time Management. I can balance my summer job, family plans, and social life around daily schoolwork.
- Tech Comfort. I know how to troubleshoot basic computer issues and don't mind downloading proctoring software.
If you love managing your own schedule and can focus independently, online summer school is an incredible tool. If you easily get distracted, procrastinate, or need a teacher standing over you to get work done, you may want to reconsider. Talk to your counselor today before making your final choice! Make sure your setup meets the Technology Requirements.
